Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was founded in 1976 that fights global housing poverty. Since its creation, over 39 million people have received their support in helping build and improve their homes. Additionally, since its creation, their work has also seen the provision of over 1 million homes all over the world through its international projects.
As an international charity that operates in nearly 70 countries Habitat for Humanity aims to help vulnerable people in communities across the globe.
Habitat for Humanity Great Britain
Last year alone, Habitat for Humanity GB has supported 244,883 people through the delivery of multiple projects.
Habitat for Humanity GB does more than build homes. Their varied project work includes advocating for land rights for women, upgrading urban slums and informal settlements, improving access to water and sanitation, and helping communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.
For every £1 that is donated from cloverhut and its players, 72p goes to Habita for Humanity GB to support the delivery of their global projects and 28p goes to fundraising the next £1 as well as governance and administrative costs.
Their work
At an international and national level, Habitat for Humanity GB works hard to alleviate the stresses and worries that derive from housing poverty. Fundings, donations and volunteers are instrumental in helping people to rebuild safe and decent homes.
Donations that the charity receive contribute to the construction of decent homes for vulnerable families globally and in the UK.
In Nepal, for example, Habitat for Humanbity's emergency response efforts supported communities that were affected by the 2015 earthquake - helping people to rebuild their homes in a way that would be more resilient to future disasters.
In the UK Habitat for Humanity GB works to refurbish, renovate and rebuild unused spaces to turn them into affordable homes. One individual that was supported by Habitat for Humanity GB is Nathan rooke, whom, after leaving the British Army found himself homeless for a period of 5 months.
With the support of Habitat for Humanity GB and their partners, Nathan was welcomed into an ex-servicemen hostel in London that provided him with a private room.
Through the project of renovating empty and disused buildings, Habitat for Humanity GB and its partners are able to provide safe housing for vulnerable people like Nathan.

The Ukraine Refugee Crisis
Habitat for Humanity GB is supporting refugees that have fled Ukraine into the neighbouring countries of Poland, Romania and Hungary.
Since the outbreak of war, staff have been on the ground at the border, in transportation locations and at transit centres. In the first few days of the crisis, Habitat for Humanity Romania supported refugees by supplying emergency kits containing chargers to enable refugees to stay connected whilst on the move. They were also able to distribute heaters in the temporary camps at the border as the temperature dropped below freezing. Since the initial days, Habitat for Humnaity Romania, Poland and Hungary have also been supporting refugees through a variety of other projects including ReStore and Renovation projects.
Habitat for Humanity's support for refugees fleeing Ukraine is ongoing as they seek to find mid-long-term shelther solutions for refugees in need of a safe place to call home.
Habitat for Humanity GB is passionate about helping vulnerable women. Women like Beauty - a women from Zambia, who, when she became a widow was forced by her mother and father-in-law to mary her late husband's brother. When Beauty refused, she and her children were made homeless and forced to leave their home and all of their belongings in the possession of her lat husband's family.
Whilst out in her community, Beauty was invited to attend a study group that was being run by Habitat for Humanity Zambia. Through this group, Beauty was able to learn about finances, how to save money, how to protect her assets and more. With the charity's support, Beauty was able to receive a new home which she now lives in with her children. You can find out more about Beauty's story here.
